Guided By Convictions, Bound By Respect

One hundred high school students and older adults gathered for our half-day conference “Guided by Convictions” at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College (Manchester, NH).

Are tolerance and acceptance the highest goods in a plural society? As public provocateurs with large internet followings express approval for Hitler, and call for white men to be in charge of everything, are there limits to who and what we can respect? What positive vision of a common good should we work for?

Through guided small-group conversations led by teams of student and older adult facilitators, participants reflected on their own convictions about what is good, and what a society that promotes human flourishing would look like.

This conference was a collaboration of the Ethics Forum at Souhegan High School, the Center for the Study of Religion and Public Life, and the S1 Project.
