What Do We Owe Each Other? Obligations and Rights in Our Common Life

April 14, 2025 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

The most recent S1/HYPE intergenerational seminar was held on April 14 at Souhegan High School in Amherst, New Hampshire.

Thirty high school seniors and fifteen adults read a short story in which the characters had to make ethical choices. Entering imaginatively into the moral world of the story, our adult and student participants talked with each other about the tensions and dilemmas the characters faced, as they tried to do the right thing.

The S1 Project aims to help people of all ages become more confident in engaging in conversations that weigh questions of character and virtue, meaning and purpose.

We do this because we believe that improving our society, and strengthening our self-governance in a constitutional republic, depends on the people’s (our) ability to reflect on, and make judgments about, what is good, virtuous, and meaningful.
